{"id":610,"date":"2011-09-07T23:09:50","date_gmt":"2011-09-07T22:09:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.owlfish.com\/weblog\/?p=610"},"modified":"2011-09-08T00:04:09","modified_gmt":"2011-09-07T23:04:09","slug":"android-market-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.owlfish.com\/weblog\/2011\/09\/android-market-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Android Market Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Android Market continues to struggle in providing a great end user experience.\u00a0 To illustrate, here&#8217;s what I went through when purchasing <a href=\"https:\/\/market.android.com\/details?id=com.exozet.game.carcassonne\">Carcassonne<\/a> tonight:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_614\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/owlfish.com\/weblog-media\/2011\/09\/dolomites.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-614\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-614\" title=\"Click for larger view\" src=\"http:\/\/owlfish.com\/weblog-media\/2011\/09\/dolomites-small.jpg\" alt=\"Dolomites\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/owlfish.com\/weblog-media\/2011\/09\/dolomites-small.jpg 400w, https:\/\/owlfish.com\/weblog-media\/2011\/09\/dolomites-small-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-614\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dolomites looking desolate<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>I had bookmarked the Carcassonne page on the market a few weeks ago, so when I decided to buy it, I followed the bookmark.\u00a0 The advertised price was \u00a31.75.<\/li>\n<li>I clicked on purchase, and the site prompted me to login, which I did.\u00a0 The &#8220;review your purchase&#8221; pop-up appeared, but listed the price as \u20ac1.99, and was missing the Confirm button.<\/li>\n<li>Deciding that the phone version may work better, I searched on my phone for Carcassone, and saw the price listed as \u00a33.49.<\/li>\n<li>Thinking that a lower price sounded better, I tried various re-loads of the page in my browser with no luck &#8211; the &#8220;review your purchase&#8221; pop-up grew a &#8220;Confirm&#8221; button, but it was greyed out and would not work.<\/li>\n<li>I tried searching in the web based version of the market for Carcassone.\u00a0 The result was a listed price of \u00a33.49.<\/li>\n<li>Giving it one last go, I followed the search result link, and it brought up the page showing the price as \u00a31.75.<\/li>\n<li>Selecting purchase I was shown the confirmation dialog with a price of \u20ac1.99, and a working &#8220;Confirm&#8221; button.<\/li>\n<li>Upon clicking Confirm the app started downloading on my phone &#8211; and the website showed a confirmation that I had purchased the game for \u00a31.75.<\/li>\n<li>Finally my Google Checkout receipt arrived, showing the actual transaction cost \u20ac1.99<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s fairly amazing that my own app (<a title=\"Android business expense tracking app\" href=\"https:\/\/market.android.com\/details?id=com.owlfish.expensesfull\">ExpenseClam<\/a>) receives any purchases at all given the difficulty involved!<\/p>\n<p>I should add that it was worth persevering &#8211; the game is rather good!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Android Market continues to struggle in providing a great end user experience.\u00a0 To illustrate, here&#8217;s what I went through when purchasing Carcassonne tonight: I had bookmarked the Carcassonne page on the market a few weeks ago, so when I decided to buy it, I followed the bookmark.\u00a0 The advertised price was \u00a31.75.
